Moorhen
(Gallinula chloropus)
The Moorhen is a resident 33cm long. Diet is aquatic plants and animals, insects, worms, slugs, berries and seeds. The hen lays 6 to 12 reddish-buff, spotted with red-brown eggs in April - July. The nest is a of rushes and reeds, lined with grass; near water. Sometimes it is in a bush overhanging water or on the ground concealed in vegetation.
