Magpie

(Pica pica pica)

The Magpie is a resident 46cm long. Diet is mainly small animals and birds, young birds, eggs, worms, snails, insects, grain acorns and fruit. The hen lays 5 - 8 blueish-green speckled with brown eggs in April. The nest is of sticks, roots and mud; domed, with the entrance hole at the side, in a small bush or tree. Like the Jackdaw and other members of its family it will steal trinkets and rings.
