Welcome to Rotherlands
Rotherlands Conservation Group was started by
Mrs Pat Redhill
and
Councillor John Crowhurst
, who organised a nature walk along the River Rother on September 13th, 2000.
The riverside meadows of Rotherlands were once part of Penns Farm and were neither intensively cultivated nor treated with pesticides or artificial fertilisers.
Due to years of neglect the brambles and nettles on Rotherlands had encroached onto the meadows and footpaths, and the more sensitive wildlife areas had become threatened with invasive plants. Rotherlands Conservation Group have worked to transform that wilderness into a wildlife haven and pleasant riverside walk.
As a result of volunteers hard work, the site was designated a Local Nature Reserve on 28 May 2004
